A collaboration between Texas Tech University, Western Colorado University & Elsewhere Studios
Art, Environment, Sustainability, is a summer residency led by Carol Flueckiger at Texas Tech University that welcomes university students to conduct Independent Study research at the intersection of art, environment and sustainability. The idea for this group started in 2018 with Elsewhere Studio’s symposium, Inspired: Art at Work, where participants created socially-engaged work addressing the natural world and sense of place in the North Fork Valley. AES is designed to facilitate exchange between graduate students in art, science, policy, etc. and engage with creative, environmental, social, and economic issues vital to sustainability and natural stewardship. The program was organized around the eleven attributes outlined by Animating Democracy, an educational module that measures artistic effectiveness by its ability to enrich communities and impact economy.
The participating universities are Texas Tech University and Western Colorado University.
